Study Tour Report – Ellora Caves

A one-day study tour to the **Ellora Caves** was organized on 28th November 2025 for the First Year B.Arch students of Sipna School of Planning and Architecture. The students were accompanied solely by Principal Ar. Smita Kasat, who guided them throughout the visit.

The objective of the tour was to expose students to ancient Indian **rock-cut architecture**, structural systems, spatial planning, and artistic expressions. Students explored significant Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain caves, with a special emphasis on the iconic **Kailasa Temple (Cave 16)**.

Principal Kasat elaborated on architectural significance, carving techniques, scale, proportion, symbolism, and the heritage value of the monuments. Students documented their observations through **notes, sketches, and photographs**, gaining valuable firsthand experience of historical architecture.

The tour proved highly educational, helping students connect classroom learning with real architectural marvels and strengthening their understanding of heritage structures.
